Privacy and terms
This is the plain-English version. It is also the only version. We collect as little as we can, we do not sell any of it, and we would rather you read this than skip it.
What we collect
- Email address, only if you type it into one of our sign-up forms.
- Order details (name, shipping address, email, and what you bought) if you buy something from the shop. Payment card details go straight to the payment processor; we never see or store them.
- Standard web analytics: pages visited, rough location by country or region, browser and device type, and the site that referred you. This is aggregated and not used to identify you.
- Anything you send us through the contact form or by email, so we can reply.
We do not buy data about you, combine our data with data from brokers, run advertising pixels, or track you across other websites.
Each form on this site says what it is for. The Humanual launch note is one message. The Toolkit list is one message when the first pages go up. The Good Work newsletter is occasional essays and updates. You can unsubscribe from any of them with the link at the bottom of every message, and we will not move you from one list to another without asking. Lists are held in Squarespace’s email service on our behalf.
Declarations and repair notes
If you tell us you keep the Accord at goodworkmovement.org/keep, we store what you type there (a first name or initials and a city or country, both optional), whether you asked to be shown, whether you declared for an AI system you run, and a scrambled form of your internet address (a salted hash) so we can stop duplicate or automated entries. We do not ask for your email for this. If you send us a one-line repair note, we keep what you send. We show a name, initials or place publicly only if you ticked the box that says so, we check each one by hand first, and we never show the names of anyone else you mention. We count declarations and publish the count. You can ask us to remove yours at any time and we will do it within thirty days.
Shop
The shop runs on Squarespace Commerce. Payments are processed by the payment provider shown at checkout (Squarespace Payments, Stripe or PayPal), whose own privacy policy covers the card data it handles. Physical items are printed and shipped by a print-on-demand partner, which receives your name and shipping address for that purpose and nothing else. Our books are sold by retailers (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org, Apple Books, Kobo and bookshops); a purchase there is governed by that retailer’s policy, and we receive no personal information from it.
Who handles it
- Squarespace hosts this website, its forms, the shop and the email lists.
- Google Analytics counts page views, as described below.
- Hetzner, a hosting company in Germany, rents us the server that publishes the Accord files at accord.goodworkmovement.org and runs our post scheduler. That server keeps an access log (time, page requested, IP address and browser type) for security and to count how often the Accord is fetched. The log is deleted after about sixty days at most; we keep only the daily counts.
- Postiz, open-source software we run on that server, schedules our posts. It holds our own account connections, not yours.
- Bluesky, Mastodon, Facebook, Instagram and Threads carry our posts. If you follow, reply or message us there, that platform’s own policy covers it. We read replies to answer them and to count them; we do not export or sell anyone’s details.
- Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic, does much of our day-to-day work and may read messages you send us in order to draft a reply.
How long we keep things
- Email addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- Declarations and repair notes: until you ask us to remove them, or until we close the list they belong to. The scrambled internet address is kept with its declaration.
- Messages you send us: up to two years, then deleted unless an ongoing conversation needs them.
- Server access logs: about sixty days at most.
- Order records: as long as tax law requires, usually seven years.
- Analytics: Google keeps event-level data for no more than fourteen months; after that only aggregate reports remain.
Analytics and cookies
The site uses Squarespace’s built-in analytics and Google Analytics to understand which pages are read. These set cookies. Squarespace also sets the cookies it needs to run the site, the shop cart, and the forms. You can block or clear cookies in your browser; the site will still work, though the cart may forget what was in it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do so within thirty days unless the law requires us to keep a record (for example of a purchase). If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have these rights in law; everywhere else you have them because we think you should. Write to us at the address below.
If we ever change how we handle data in a way that matters, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

The writing on this site, and the books, are copyright The Good Work and Good Work Press. You are welcome to quote from them with attribution, to link to any page, and to print any Toolkit page for your own use or to hand to someone who needs it. Please do not republish whole pages or chapters without asking. The Toolkit and the books are general information written with care and checked against the evidence; they are not medical, legal, or psychological advice about your particular situation, and they are not a substitute for a professional who knows it. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number.
Products in the shop are sold as described; if something arrives damaged or wrong, contact us and we will put it right. Prices include what they say they include; shipping and any tax are shown before you pay.
